Incentives are not a magic wand, but they do help kick-start books so slippage is tolerable on day one. The interesting part will be whether rewards can taper without liquidity falling off a cliff.
The problem it is targeting: underused v3-style liquidity
Concentrated liquidity changed DEXs. It packed depth near the mid and cut idle float. Then the market got complex. Ranges drifted. Sweeps lagged. On-chain frictions added up.
In July, researchers looking at v3-family venues reported that in the first half of 2026, only about 13.7 percent of concentrated-liquidity capital was actively used in an average week. Another 56.9 percent sat in-range but unswept, and 29.4 percent was out-of-range. Averaged across the period, roughly 85 percent was underutilized. The sample covered around 1.84 billion dollars of concentrated liquidity per average week, with about 542 million effectively idle, and an estimated 150 million dollars in annualized fees left uncollected across measured venues Dune (blog).
