A player in the United Kingdom has, for the first time, won a Match 5 prize from the Powerball game. This comes shortly after the game was launched overseas, allowing Brits to play for the same jackpot as their American peers.
With that in mind, it would be interesting to see when the first jackpot win in the UK would happen.
The First Overseas Win Becomes a Reality
The Powerball game launched in the UK only a few weeks ago as part of Allwyn’s ongoing modernization of The National Lottery. As a result, players in Great Britain can now play for the same jackpot and prizes as American players, although tickets are a bit more expensive. Still, this is generally Brits’ first opportunity to play for an uncapped jackpot.
While a jackpot win in the UK has yet to happen, a player in the country has just won a Match 5 prize of $1 million after matching the five white numbers, but not the Powerball. At the same time, a player in New York achieved a similar feat, also taking home a $1 million Match 5 prize.
For reference, the winning Powerball numbers for the Monday, August 31, drawing were 11, 17, 25, 37, and 49, plus the red Powerball 10. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
In addition to the two Match 5 prizes, a dozen players won tier-three prizes after matching four white numbers plus the Powerball. Nine of those ticket holders are eligible to claim prizes of $50,000, while the remaining three won $100,000 each thanks to the Power Play feature.
The Jackpot Reaches $146M for Wednesday
The jackpot stood at $134 million for the Monday drawing and has now increased to $146 million for the Wednesday drawing. A hypothetical winner would be allowed to choose between the annuitized option for the full sum or the one-time lump sum option of $63.3 million.
So far, the Powerball game has awarded six jackpots in 2026, with the most recent one happening only a few weeks ago. With the first UK Match 5 prize happening, it would be interesting to see whether Brits would be able to snatch their first jackpot as well.
In other news, the Saturday Powerball drawing also awarded two Match 5 prizes. The weekend winners included a player in California and a player in Georgia.
A few drawings earlier, a player in Florida won a $1 million Match 5 prize from the game.
